Storytelling fosters community by connecting the personal to the universal.

I write about personal experiences that I suspect others might tuck away— internalized weirdnesses and the like. Concealing aspects of ourselves fosters isolation, even as we do so in hope of acceptance.

Top 10 Things I Cooked Last Year

I am a nonfiction writer, a 90s zinester, and a home-cook with over forty years of experience in the kitchen. Since I was a little kid wielding a big wooden spoon, cooking has been a tender and empowering practice that has helped me grapple with hard changes in my life and body. Written after navigating the first year of being separated from my husband, and two years of being in recovery for a binge eating disorder, Top 10 Things I Cooked Last Year is centered around a tale of great healing, told in tiny snippets, through a very specific lens.

Top 10 Things I Cooked Last Year is a hand numbered, limited edition zine that includes stories, a recipe, an invitation to listen to music, thoughts on table setting, and original art.

This publication is for anyone who wants to connect with me and others over a love of cooking and eating, as well as for anyone who is curious about other people’s healing paths. It is my hope that after you have read a bit about my year in the kitchen, that you’re inspired to trust yourself enough to play with your food a little more often!

An Invitation: Listen to A Song by Sarah

I am very lucky in that my girlfriend, Sarah, sometimes plays her music on the piano while I cook! With permission, she records the music and all the accompanying ambient noise on her phone. As part of The Top 10 Things I Cooked This Year  Sarah and I would like to invite you to listen to a track.
